More about Anticlastic Raising
Anticlastic Raising is a technique of metal forming where a flat piece of metal is formed directly with a hammer on a sinusoidal (stake). The flat sheet is shaped by stretching its edges and compressing the center so that the surface develops two curves at right angles to each other. The technique for this metalworking was lost until rediscovered in the last half of the 20th century, in large part by Michael Good (michaelgood.com) considered the Godfather of Anticlastic Raising.
These earrings are a recreation of bronze age ribbon torques worn by Celts. The method for creating these helical torques was thought to be lost for over 2000 years until Michael Good, working with Brian Clarke, rediscovered the technique.
